The Cultural Affairs Bureau is organizing the participation of 26 local anime entities in the Macao Pavilion at the 5th Shenzhen Anime Festival, to take place from July 17 to 21 at the Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Centre, thereby showcasing the development of the local anime industry. The objective is to help the industry to promote its brands, to strengthen exchange between entitities and boost regional cooperation.
The Macao Pavilion has ‘dream’ as its theme, using a combined assemblage of polygons in various patterns to help create a dream-like setting, symbolizing a creative process in which free, unbridled imagination gradually takes form, finally bringing the ‘dream’ to a reality. The structure, in bright colours, highlights Macao’s anime industry’s vitality. Macao’s exhibitors will showcase recent creative productions, including original cartoon clips, mobile phone apps, illustrations, comic books and anime merchandise. The pavilion will also include an interactive installation, a ‘magic mirror’, providing a more direct relationship with visitors and allowing them to better understand Macao’s anime-related industries.
The 26 Macao exhibitors include: Morpheus Animation Studios, Soda Panda Product Design, Comic's Kingdom Macau, Estúdio de Animação Infinito, Chun Man Publishing Co., Ltd., Maple Studio, Hyper Comics Society, Macau Comickers Association, MACANI, Amateur Continuing Study Centre, and creators Chiang Wai Lan, Ip Man Teng, Wu Chi Kit, Chan Wai Fai, ChouCheong Hong, Chan Iu Pui, Chan Kin Chong, Lei Sai Kun, Ip Kuok Hong, Kuan Man Chon, Chan Wai Lam, LioHak Man, Wong Tin Chon, Leung Iao Tong, Cheong Tong Io and Tai Io Kuan.
Since its first edition in 2009, the Shenzhen Anime Festival has become the largest anime event in Shenzhen, taking place in mid-July during summer vacation. This year’s main theme is “Anime, Originality, Life”, featuring an Experimental Area, a Display Area and an Activities Area. Through this initiative, the organisation intends to enrich youth’s summer cultural life, as well as provide anime industry entities and individuals an all-purpose platform to publicize their brands, to unify the industry, to exchange information and for trade transactions. The festival is expected to attract professionals from home and abroad, national anime industrial parks, cartoon R&D, production and training organizations, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas anime enterprises, audio-visual and print publishers and distributors, while also drawing cartoon merchandise, toys and gifts manufacturers and traders, firms specializing in e-Sport, on-line games and anime, professional institutes, anime NGO associations, anime freelance creators, venture investors, franchises, as well managerial and development entities and professionals.
