With the aim of establishing Macao as a world tourism and leisure centre, the Government promoted optimum diversification of the economy, and controlled the pace of growth of the gaming industry to achieve progress in an orderly manner. The combined efforts of the Government and the industry led to encouraging development of integrated tourism, reflected in improvements in sectors including retail, hotels and catering, as well as the nurturing of emerging industries including convention and exhibition, cultural and creative, and Chinese medicine. Through establishment of a cultural industry fund and an injection of 200 million patacas, the Government fostered local cultural and creative industries and talent in the form of subsidies and awards. On the other hand, the Government also boosted the construction of major infrastructure in Macao, leading to steady development in urban planning, environmental protection and cultural construction and thus fostering vibrancy in our city.
In the past four years, the Government has aggressively enhanced regional cooperation and promoted international exchange and interaction. We have forged a service platform for commercial and trade cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, advancing cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries in the spheres of commerce, economics and culture. With the orderly implementation of the Framework Agreement on Cooperation between Guangdong and Macao, the two regions have reached the expected outcome of promoting synergies in various domains, especially in economic development and livelihood improvement.
