Taipa Village Cultural Association Exclusively Presents “Show-Off”, an Exhibition by Three Art Collectors

05/06/2023

Taipa Village Cultural Association is delighted to present “Show-Off”, its first exhibition based on art collections. “Show-off” showcases a treasure trove of art by three renowned collectors whose backgrounds are a study in diversity: Macau lawyer Frederico Rato, architect Francisco Ricarte, and celebrated master painter Konstantin Bessmertny.

In the exhibition, the three collectors share exclusive collections amassed over the years both locally and internationally, exhibiting beloved artworks that adorn the most intimate spaces in their homes. The show explores ideas related to collecting art and aims to promote art collecting as a cultural asset that starts with individual initiative but which may lead to a broader sense of commonwealth, a healthy society, diversity in the local economy – including in such activities as art trading – and the nurturing of local and international talent.

Each collection in the exhibition reveals aspects of the collector’s personality. As a Macau history enthusiast, Frederico Rato exhibits a collection of old engravings and paintings that depict the territory’s waterfront and landscape. Francisco Ricarte, a passionate photographer and an artist, showcases his valuable photography collection, and renowned Russian artist Konstantin Bessmertny offers an art installation with a collection of inspirational old books for visitors to read and enjoy.

“It is our honour to invite the three art collectors to showcase their exclusive art collections, which are like no others,” said João Ó, President of the Executive Board at Taipa Village Cultural Association. “This rare and special exhibition aims to explore the nature of collecting and prompt visual conversations on the cultural possessions of individuals with very specific, highly personal interests.”

Taipa Village Cultural Association continues to bring together the endeavours of local and international artistic talents to exhibit myriad artworks in Taipa Village. “Show-Off” further cements Taipa Village’s position as a leading cultural and artistic destination in Macau, and underlines its invaluable contribution to the promotion of the territory’s cultural and creative industries.
