Cultural Affairs Bureau announces candidates selected for the second review for the “5th Subsidy Programme for the Production of Original Song Albums”

The initial review for the “5th Subsidy Programme for the Production of Original Song Albums”, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), has been concluded recently, with and the jury has selected six entrants under the album category and ten entrants under the mini album category for the second review of the programme.

The Programme seeks to cultivate more talented local music composers and producers, boost the local music industry, support the production and marketing of original song albums, and encourage musicians to produce and release more outstanding works, thus laying the groundwork for market development. A total of 55 eligible applications were received this year. Upon the initial review, the adjudicating panel have chosen the candidates for the second review as follows (in arbitrary order): under album category are Nunes Pestana da Silva Caetano, João, Kong Kai Pok, Chang Heng Ian, Leong Chi Long, Pang Weng Sam and Fabio Ari De Guzman; under the mini album category are Cheung Weng Kei, Choi Kuok Chu, Deng Wan Pin, Sofia Vanessa dos Santos Paiva, Chan Wai Man, Jay Peterson Cuevas Elma, Lio Ka U, Leong Sam Lou, Lo Ka Man and Lam Sze Ho.

Candidates for the second review are required to submit the “Second Review Information Form”, three to five drawings of the album image or design and a softcopy of the album introduction (if any), and present the album production plan to the adjudicating panel during the second review. The adjudicating panel will select, based on multiple criteria such as the quality of composition and lyrics and the level of arrangement and production, a maximum of 3 beneficiaries under the album category and 6 beneficiaries under the mini album category, granting each a subsidy of up to MOP270,000 and MOP135,000 respectively, as well as offering professional advice for the album production.

The adjudicating panel is composed of celebrated professionals from Hong Kong, including music producer Edward Chan, lyricist Chow Yiu Fai, music supervisor and composer Ronald Ng, music producer Kelvin Ngai, and Vice Director of the Artists and Production Department of Emperor Entertainment Group, Liu Chi Wah.
